EIGHT hours of fun and interactive action to raise 100k for a l

EIGHT hours of fun ONLINE and OFFLINE! For the very first time in Kenya, the Facebook and twitter community will come together to raise Ksh. 100,000.00 within 8 hours that will go towards helping a CBO based in Githurai, Nairobi!

And it is happening on 8th of April 2011…coincidence? EIGHT hours on 8th!

How do we plan to raise that amount?

In the spirit of haba-na-haba hujaza kibaba, we are looking forward to engage people to donate their 1%...which could be 50 shillings or even 200 shillings. With as little as 50 bob you are able to support. Imagine if over 2,000 people gave 50 bob each (or more)…that’s how we plan to do it, doing great things in a small, simple ways.
Where will the event be?

We will have the OFFLINE community converge at the Nailab, which is located at the Bishop Magua centre along Ngong road (opposite Uchumi). Here we will have interactive activities like playing Nintendo games, PlayStation 3, auctions and many more. No entry fee, just a fee to play a game…which is as little as Ksh. 50.00.

I will be busy at work but want to donate, how do I go about it?

The ONLINE community will take part in this fun activity via Facebook and twitter and your contribution will be via mobile money payment (MPesa and ZAP). This is because some of you are willing to be part of this initiative but due to work or other commitments, you are unable to be physically present.

You will your send donations through mobile money transfers and we will update them on our Facebook and twitter profiles. The procedure on how to send the money will be relayed to you days to the event.

To join our Facebook page for updates, click 1%CLUB page and also follow us on Twitter. Our handle for twitter for the event will be #1pcHabaNaHaba

We will post photos of the activities and stream videos (through livestream and also upload them). List of contributors will be updated hourly on the page.

What project is being supported?

The funds will go towards the project Less is More, which is based at Githurai and trains its members on local waste management projects (cutting plastic waste and reselling it) for the people of Githurai. The funds will go towards training them in business, education, awareness and communications. Click on this link for more info about the project:http://bit.ly/hbRSZZ

Other online humanitarian initiatives done by Kenyans include the famine support by Zetu Deals where they are getting people to buy unga (flour) and mafuta (cooking oil) for families affected by drought in Kenya. This has proved to be a success and we sure our Eight Hour action will indeed bear fruits.

As we keep up with the countdown, we invite you to share your thoughts and feedback about the event. Join and invite your friends on our Facebook pagehttp://www.facebook.com/onepercentclub and follow us on Twitter @1percentclub
